Daytona Bike Week

The Daytona Beach Bike Week rally started as the Daytona 200 race on January 24, 1937. This first race was a 3.2 miles (5.1 km) beach and pavement course. It was won by Ed Kretz from California riding an Indian motorcycle with an average speed of 73.34 mph (118.03 km/h). In 1947 the official race resumed and gained in popularity. Indian Chief 1922-1953, 1999-2021.

When Indian resumed civilian production after World War II, they revived only the Chief line. Production of Indian motorcycles ended with the last Chief made in 1953. The Chief was introduced for 1922 to replace the Powerplus, although the Powerplus was continued under the “Standard” name until 1923. Designed by Charles B. Indian Larry appeared in Easyriders magazine in 1998 in an article entitled, “Hardcore NYC Troubadors“. Later that same year the magazine profiled Larry with his motorcycle, Grease Monkey, which won the 1998 Editor’s Choice Award at the Easyriders Invitational Bike Show in Columbus, Ohio, which was an important recognition by the biker world of Larry’s talent.
